I am thinking about getting chip for my civic from horsepowerchips.com and i was wondering if they will actually get my car 50 more hp or is it just a joke. They are on sale at the website for 36$. Are these chips actually work. I would like to know if this is worth buying. thanks.

no. the only way to gain that kind of power is to either build or boost your engine. chips wont do s**t for a civic.

Most of these pre-programmed chips gain horsepower by raising your redline to dangerous levels, and changing the balance of things to sacrifice fuel economy (and definitely reliability) for power. It is possible to safely gain horsepower using a chip, by getting a chip that re-tunes your ECU to use higher octane gasoline only. I'm not sure of chips out there with this readily available, so if you really wanted to chip your ECU for performance (which I wouldn't suggest on a stock Civic anyway), the best route would be to get a blank chip and have someone tune it for you. Overall, it would probably be expensive and yield you maybe 10 horsepower maximum.

^^ :word:

those cheap ecu chips basically lean out your a/f ratio which gives you some hp gains but it's risky business. you'd definitely have to use premy gas and possibly have a timing adjustment, all for like 10hp

you won't get 20hp out of a d16 by leaning it out, esp if you start using 91 octane and retard the timing too

You should advance timing by 4, chip the car, run 93 octane.... MAD VTECH POWER!
