Civic grinding on start

Hello everyone I have a question about my 1992 Honda civic hatch. I have the stock 1.5 in the car with 242,000 miles. I was having issues with the starter grinding on starts. I would start the car, it would grind like if the car was already running. So I put in a new starter and it still does it, changed the connector to the starter and it still does it. I don't know what the hell is going on. It will do it maybe very 7-8 starts. When I try starting it a second time itll start right up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you changed your starter already and still makes that grinding noise, my bet its on the flywheel, sometimes the teeth tend to break or wear..

Ok Ill check that, I tried checking that the other day. I had the car jacked up, put it in first gear and it spun freely with the clutch out so maybe I need to lower the car just a bit. Thank You for the response

Check the flywheel and then check the engagement distance of the starter off the car... if it is too short(barely makes contact with the teeth) or too long (barely makes contact with the teeth and makes contact with the shroud) that would be a source too...

have seen that happen with the 1.5 - 1.6 starter confusion at the autopart store

Well I checked the teeth on the flywheel and all the teeth are ok, none are broken off. The starter did this every once in a while with the old starter and now the new starter. I am completely lost as to what it might be. It seems as if the car is hot (driven for some time) that it will do it more often. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
