My buddy Jason has a 99 4dr Lx. He paid it off recently and now its time to really get down and dirty on modifiying it. The stock d16y has about 60k on it but he really wants to swap. We were thinking on just a b-series but has anyone ever heard of swapping for an H or F series? We want to go all out, turbos, exhaust, everything and money isnt really a problem. we just want to have fun really. Hit us up with some ideas and pics if you've seen anything crazy done...

I would start of with a b18c5, if money is no issue then put that bad boy in there.

Since it's a sedan, I'd go b18b, need the low end torque to pull the heavier weight

Contrary to popular belief, our 96-00 sedans are lighter than the 96-00 coupes...

ok, it depends on how much you have to spend.

b16, or b18b would be your most cost effective swaps.

but if you want to get serious or go really fast, then consider b18c1 (gsr), h22 (prelude) or a b18c5 (itr)

i highly reccomend you look into a h22 BEFORE you look into a b18c5 if you want to go that far, the h22 will have more out of the box torque than the b18c5, and just as much if not more hp.

another engine to consider is the b20 out of the crv if emmisions arent a problem in your state. These engines haul ass and will generally take out an EQUALLY MODDED b16 and be way cheaper.

more information about the b20 can be found here

b18b and b20 will be the easier swaps out of all that are mentioned because they do not have vtec, so thats one less thing you will have to wire.

If money is of no problem and you want to get all crazy drop an NSX motor in it and change it to RWD.

b20 needs work though to fit. the stock transmission doesnt work in our cars, as its made for 4wd. also, the intake manifold needs to be changed, as its too tall and doesnt fit under our hoods. the b20 head is the worse flowing b series head, and gains can be had by dropping on a ls head. basically a b20 swap you only want the shortblock and the rest you want ls parts. not e xactly plug and play.

fitment: fits just like any other b series will as far as i know
tranny: any b series will work
intake manifold: works fine on the 4th gen civic i cant see why the newer gens would have problems

despite the poor flowing head it still will take out a b16

read the af thread i provided a link to in earlier post.

i know melt, b20>b16. a buddy of mine had a b20 del sol, much fun to drive. he still had to change the tranny and the im. i cant see how that waterfall manifold fits on any stock civic hood, but whatever. *brain fart* b20b has the waterfall manni, b20z does not. my friend had the b. changing trannys still is quite a bit of work.

B20Z has the shorter (in height) intake manifold and will fit perfectly under the hood of a 96-00 Civic Coupe/Sedan/Hatch. It's got so much torque it's unbelievable. Guy I go to school with has one in his 98 Hatch... you can drive anywhere in 2nd gear (around town) it'll scratch through 4th gear if conditions are right... it's very sweet... :D

if money isnt a problem, sell that car and buy something better. if i got money, i would not be rolling in a civic.
