Civic won't start after swapping engine

Put a 98 dx (non vtec) engine into my 99 civic ex car (which was vtec). Reason for the swap... I blew a piston rod through my block and my friend had that engine I could put in it. User my same exhaust and intake manifolds. When trying to start it all the lights in the car come on it tries to turn but won't start. I'm not a car guy, my friend did the engine swap with his 98 dx engine. So if there is any trouble shooting I would greatly appreciate it. He thinks that maybe something with the computer is going wrong after the swap but he is not sure. What else could be happening. Greatly appreciated! Thanks

it could be any number of things. you need to do some diagnostics. if its not starting, but its turning, than check ignition, fuel, and intake. cars need air and fuel to ignite. so if its not igniting, check air, fuel, than ignition.

car isn't getting spark even after we changed the distributor that's the problem we are dealing with... Before the old motor blew I had just changed the spark plugs and we used those in the new motor. Could the spark plugs possibly gone bad when I blew out my old motor?

Spark plugs are fine tested them on another car... Any other thoughts?

Coil is igniting also just tested it with the cap off. ..

Got it working! The coil in the distributor was bad and changing that made it start
