Cluster lighting issue.

Sup guys. When I bought my 97 Honda Civic Lx, the lighting in the cluster did not work.
I tried to get it fixed, but the mechanic that I knew said that a critical piece was broken inside
the cluster & that it would be too expensive and pointless to fix. So my question is, is there
any alternatives I could do to get some kind of light in my cluster? It gets really dark inside my
car when I drive at night and im tired of it. Any feed back helps. Thanks!

Try finding one at a salvage yard and pull it to replace your broken one. You can swap out the odometer faces to retain actual mileage.

Try to grab another cluster from any 96-00 Civic or 97-01 CRV for $40-$80, if it doesn't work, you have a wiring problem.
Before you do go and buy one, are you sure the wiring is fine?

Im sorry, but when I said that a critical piece was broken, it had to do with the wiring.
I've tried replacing the whole cluster itself and tried a new dimmer switch, didn't work.
