Cluster Swap Check Engine

Okay I have a DX and I got an EX cluster cause I wanted the tach and I got a hell of a deal on it ($50 shipped). So I swapped it in today and my check engine light is on now, it wasn't before. Why is this happening? The only thing I can think of is that the cluster came from an engine with VTEC and my car doesn't have it so could this be it?

Cluster shouldnt matter about vtec or not, its the ECU that reads that and would throw a code....anyways, maybe something came unplugged when you were in the dash? maybe (and i duno just throwing out an idea) it has something to do with SRS? (airbags) i duno if that would throw a code, but if the cluster came from a car that had a passenger airbag and yours doesnt maybe that would do it? or vise versa? duno what else

Code 41 which is the primary oxygen sensor heater code. What the hell does that mean?

That means the primary O2 sensor on your car is f**ked. You need a new one.

Okay so I'm pretty pissed right now. I bought this car from a guy who's brother salvages Honda's and fixes them and sells them to his brother to sell here. I have had a couple problems with this car. One being that when I got in my wreck at 40 mph the airbags did not deploy. Come to find out there aren't any in the car. He didn't mention this to me when I bought it. Now I go back and check my old cluster and I found that there is no bulb in the check engine light spot. Hmm... coincidence? Anyways does anyone know what I need to do to fix the problem?

PS - Don't buy salvage cars. You need to take it to a bodyshop and have them do a FULL inspection of the car. Check welds, check bolts, check everything. Fix your O2 sensor as soon as possible. You could start throwing a Catalytic Degredation code ... then your fuel milage and engie go to pot cuz your car goes into "safe" mode.

That's what I was thinking at first but then I saw other codes for Oxygen Sensor 1 and Oxygen Sensor 2 so I didn't know what was wrong. I've been searching about it and I found out that the oxygen sensor has a heater that heats it up because it won't give accurate readings unless it's at least 600 degrees apparently. So I didn't know if just a new O2 sensor would fix this problem or if it's in the wiring or what. I'll try a new O2 sensor and see if that fixes it.

Uhm, not to be a smartass or anything, but wouldnt this be blatantly obvious? Just curious.. :???:

At any rate, let us know if the OXS replacement fixes the issue..

Wouldn't what be blatantly obvious? That the airbags didn't deploy? Yes it was but when we bought it the guy didn't tell us there weren't any. He's supposed to tell us if they weren't reinstalled.

No...

If there weren't any airbags, THAT would be blatantly obvious, as given away by the (either) hole in the dash and steering wheel, or aftermarket steering wheel and possible tray int he dash area..

Or, are the bags there, just nothing else? See my confusion?

The steering wheel is complete and it's stock as well as the passenger side dash. It all looks normal but no bags inside apparently. That or they're not hooked up. I need to get that checked out.

hahaha, do you realise that if you threw a code with your new cluster, that had ment he either pulled the bulb on the old one or purposely burnt out the bulb so that you would never have known that your O2 was out if you didnt switch out the cluster...

looks like you caught him red handed

Does the horn work?
It sounds kinda like he may have had an aftermarket steering wheel in it, then replaced the factory one before selling it, and didnt put in the clockspring assembly or something.. If the horn works, then more than likely, the CS assembly is in place, and its another issue.. If someone pulls the CEL bulb, then they are effing slackers in the first place, so who knows how hacked up your car is now.. :(

I don't know about an aftermarket wheel cause the whole car was stock when I got it and I think it was a chick who had it b4 me cause I found lip stick and stuff in the e-brake console. Why would she put just a steering wheel on it? Anyways the horn does work and I'm gonna go get the rest of the car checked out. I got the car for like 3,000 2 years ago. I took it to a shop b4 I bought it to see if it was all OK and the guy said it was good so I got it.

Okay so I pulled off the exhaust manifold heat shield and there is a crack in my exhaust manifold. I was looking at getting headers anyways so I ordered them tonight instead of waiting. Anyways, does anyone think that this could be why I'm getting the check engine light? The crack is VERY close to to the O2 sensor.
