Clutch idle rough, slow accel, help!

Earlier today in third gear my car made a fluttering sound, sorta like my short ram intake but more intense, then when I down shifted and slowed down it started making a ticking like sound. As I was in neutral it idled perfectly fine, but when I press in my clutch it begins to lose rpm and stall, which makes first gear a struggle to accelerate in without my car turning off. Once I do get into gear it runs slower than it used to as if horsepower isn't there.

Any ideas on what could have caused this and what I need to do to fix it?

Hmm. This could be a few things. The first symptoms are kinda weird, but the loss of power/acceleration and crappy start lead me to believe it may be dizzy, cat or 02 sensors.

Also a clicking Noise happens when I shift from 2nd to 3rd, it's a tiny grind as if the gear is stripped or as if the clutch wasn't all the way pressed when it is

Update: drove it down the street today and acceleration was fine, tho around 2,500 rpm I heard a clanking noise. When I looked under the hood and revved the engine it sounded like something was flying around the inside of my engine, tho is drive fine. The usual problems with the car turning off after idling hard or as I pressed the clutch and the rpm slowly though steadily dropped.

The only problems I saw/noticed leading up to this problem was a little clicking grind as I shifted from 2nd-3rd. It started out rare but became a problem every time I shifted.

It's a 97 civic ex non vtec 1.6 manual

Any idea what could be wrong? I'd like to find out if it's safe to drive to a mechanic or if it is something I could figure out myself. Let me know, anything would be appreciated!

Sorry to hear that man! My cousin just lost the motor in his 93' GTR Skyline... he bought a R34 motor and tranny to replace the stock motor when the ceramic turbo blade shot through the motor... 10 grand down the drain!, also when he was into honda's he lost 4 motors like you did.... you think he would learn after the first one.... aparently not!
