A few months ago i just got a 2000 Civic Si from some dude in PA. I had to bring it to inspection because the sticker was due to be changed. Every once in a while i noticed this smell of gasoline if i'm pushing the car. When i went to get the car inspected they failed me for my emissions because have a hollowed out catalyc converter, but they also told me that the car detected a Evaporative Emission Control System leak. What exactly does that mean. Should i get it checked out? Is it damaging the car even more by ignoring the problem? Generally, where should i look for some type of leak?

well my service engine light is on but i thought that was from the o2 sensor cause of my hollowed out cat so i took out the light in the gauges. The guy at the inspection station told me what the codes were so i know for sure that those are the reasons the light is on.
