Hey all whats up. I have a 96 coupe, and my adj. coil overs are here. I want a 1.75- 2" drop, so now what. Can I use my stock stuts and/or shocks, or do I need to replace one or the other, or both. Also how hard is it to drop a civic your self.

I did the install of coilovers and new struts with a little help from a friend. All you need are the correct tools and some time. Not really all that hard to do. just make sure you have everything you need. There should be a link to something under the "how to" section on how to do the entire install.

you can keep the stock ones but they'll blow out in a hearbeat at that drop. Get some new ones, but some of them are only gaurenteed to a certain drop (i.e my KYB agx's are only gaurenteed to 1.5" drop) i'm not sure about others but just FYI....try checking out the Koni Yellows if you got the money

just like zim zimma said your stock ones will blow. but any aftermarket shock will hold up. The AGX would probably be best cause they are affordable and becuase they are adjustable they can handle a little more .what part of jville are you from? Im originally from OP. fleming island. Ill be back soon. In the ARMY now : 8)

if u are gonna do it urself..dont waste ur money getting spring compressors..but dont get hit by the spring when it shoots out cuz u wont b able to drive for a while...it shouldn't b hard to put them on..dont put them on reversed either.make shure u take off the correct bolts too..

I don't see why you wouldn't use a spring compressor, it takes maybe an extra ten minutes and can guarantee that you won't die working on your car

I agree with the notion of using a spring compressor. It's just cheap insurance (some shops even rent them or lend them for free!) to use one.. ..IOW it's a good idea, ESPECIALLY for someone who has never done a springjob before.

Pulling and swapping springs on a Civic is quite easy and straightforward. The only "risky" part of it is getting the stock coils out of their mounts without having them shoot out and break something (or someone).. ..why not use a compressor to ensure that the tricky part isn't so tricky?
