I'm planning on making a cold air box/heat shield but with a box fabbed out of stainless sheet metal. I know it doesnt seem like the best choice, but I like the look of it and I plan on treating it inside and out so that it doesnt conduct heat much at all. Has anyone else done what I plan on doing with a sheet metal box? Can you post some pics if you get a chance. I'd really like to see how some of you guys would go about doing it. I tried to make some templates about a month ago when I started it but with all the hoses running around the filter etc... it became a b***h.... Anything would be helpful

meh, well I already bought the stainless and would like to make something kinda custom. The stock box would make it much easier but would look kinda rigged to me. I'm gonna work on it today and see if I can come up with a template that might work.

all i have to do is buy another black coupler, and pain the air box, and make the down pipe for the box to go behind the bumper.

I just worked on this whole setup and I think I've come up with something that will work. I'll post pics later to see what you guys think. It def. isnt exactly easy doing the setup considering that there arent any clean edges etc.. to work off of

yea, it should be interesting.... I'm gonna try to take my time to make sure that everything fits really well onces its all done. The problem is mainly with the trans mount and the hoses being in the way. On top of that the intake filter and tube are kinda big and dont come in at the best angle. I also have to make a new mount bracket to attach the end of the intake tube to the chassis bc the old one sits the tube and filter way to high for me to be able to put a top on it.

get some weather stripping to put around the top edges and the hole that you cut out for the intake pipe. this ice box is similar to what ive seen on a lot of trucks

Yea, thats what I plan on doing. My roomate suggests that I just put stripping on the side pieces that would seal it to the hood but I'm gonna make a top for it as well. I'll put stripping on everything for the most part to make sure that nothing rubs or starts to vibrate and rattle etc... Unfortunately, bc I'm getting my ground controls in this week I might not be able to finish this little project up next weekend cuz those would be going on asap. We'll see though......

sounds like a good start. The intake is pretty close to the radiator and getting rid of 3/4 the radiant heat should net a pony or two.
