concerning signaling problems....

I have a 96' civic EX coupe and yesterday when i was driving, i noticed that when i signal to turn right or left, and after I finished completing a turn, the signaling light does not turn off by itself. It stays on and i have to manually shut it off. This occurred the whole day yesterday, but all of a sudden last night, when i made 2 consecutive right turns, it "fixed" itself. However, i was driving before, and then the same problem re-surfaced again. I was thinking it was the cold weather effecting the sensors or something like that. Anyone has solutions or comments about my problem? Thanks!

I have a 97 hb that just started missing the auto-return as well. I believe it is in the lever. As I understand it, there are two protrusions that will catch on a detent on your steering column and therefore re-center your lever. I believe they are either broken off, or jammed. I have not attempted a steering column disassembly as of yet. If I find anything I will let you know. I would also appreciate it if you discover an alternate solution.

For some reason, my problem is on and off, and when i was driving before, the auto-return worked fine.
I bet tomorrow is going to stop working though!

My wifes CRV is doing the same thing. I've talked to the dealership and other honda owners and they all say that it is in the lever. Also my wifes windshield wipers don't work right, and they said the same thing, it's in the lever.

What it is is its the turn signal cam. When you flip the switch for the turn signal, it slides over a cam, as as you turn the wheel in that direction, the wheel itself slides of the cam as well, when you turn back the other way though, it hits the cam and re-centers it. That is the basic theory behind it, pretty much the same design in all cars. So you have to take off the airbag, use a steering wheel puller and remove the steering wheel, then take apart the turn signal assembly and install the new cam ring. So really, 160 installed isnt that bad, figure that part is 25 bucks, and 2 hours of labor at 70 bucks an hour. Or you can manualy move it back, which acourse in some states is illegal as well. Hope this helps alittle though.
