Couple of Nitrous Questions

1. Is it safe to run nitrous on an auto? If so, what kind of shot can I run on a stock (internally) D17?

2. Approximately how much is it to refill a tank?

(btw, don't worry, I plan on doing much much more research before installing a nitrous kit on my car. Also, let me know if you need any more info before answering the questions above.)

im not sure, but ill add my knowledge....... if ur motor has low mileage, and u have no internals done, u might be able to do a wet50shot ........ i was considering adding a 50shot of nit. to my b16, just for more torque, but poeple say its unhealthly for ur motor in the long run, especially with stock internals.

its way unhealthy for the motor...a 55dry shot would be fine...but ive never heard of anyone throwing a bottle into an autotranny....refills will vary for where you live...refills on a 10gallon bottle used to run about 50 but now i think its around 80 for where i live...

your tranny is what you will have to watch. honda autos dont like too much power. but ive had a zex dry 55shot on my gsr and it was fine. as for the motor, idk anything about the d17s. it costs $4 a lb here to fill a bottle, so $40 if you have a 10lb bottle like most.

i agree...

with any serious power adder.. nitrous turbo.. whatever.. i dont think the auto tranny will hold it too long.. i blew through my stock clutch with nitrous... i dont think think the power adder is the problem.. i think its the power that power adder ads if you follow me..

Another tale that gives nitrous a bad name. Nitrous is like a gun. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. The same saying can be used for nitrous. For and example: When I first got my '03 S10 it had 6,000 miles on it. I put a zex kit on it the next week and ran a 75 shot for two years and today with 40,xxx mile on it it still runs just as good.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I figured that the tranny would be my downfall.... the same damn thing that put my turbo plans in the trash :cry:

But then again, nitrous is expensive as hell... maybe I'm not so depressed after all.

They make tranny upgrade kits to strengthen your tranny.
Nitrous is not expensive at the level you would be on. When I go for refills I have 6 bottles that get filled. That is when it becomes expensive.

ran a 75 shot of nitrous on a d15 non vtec blew the son of a b***h right up it was fun though lol i wouldnt put nitrous on anything not built for it my new motor is built to withstand a huge shot of nitrous but will only be used for track since my motor is allready a fast 12 second street car i just want to add that extra umff at the track if you catch my drift =) but nitrous on stock auto = not good also it cost me 35 dollers to fill up my zex bottle

back to the tranny down fall eh joe, its time to ditch the d17 or the entire 7th gen like I did.
