Hello evryone and thanks for reading my post. My son just recently bought a 98 civic and the problem he is havng is that when he first starts the car the speedo doesnt work. But after he tachs it up to around 3000/3500 rpms it starts working. Now he hasnt tried but the guy he bought it from said that if u dont tach it up like that not only will the speedo not work, but the alternator doesnt start charging either. We have replaced the vss but it still does this. After you tach it up like that though the speedo works and the alternator charges? Any idea would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

This sounds like an issue I had. The Speedo would go crazy, the alternator wasn't charging and it even threw random codes. There is a wire in the engine bay that rubs up against something, the coating wears through so all kinds of weird stuff starts happening because it grounds out. Its a Honda recall/service bulletin, all you have to do is tape it up with electrical tape and zip tie it out of the way. Any shop should be able to look it up for you. Good luck
