MDF man , But if u want a quality box u shuold get it made out of birch wood. Sounds better. Will be a lil more than mdf but cheaper than fiberglass.

Birch Wood is really good, but just stick with the normal MDF 3/4 Inch. if you want Fibreglass then do that as well.

oh dont go 1/2 inch, you want at least 3/4 inch. and the reason why plywood is no good is because it is composed of lots of thin sheets and they rattle. wood flexes as the subwoofer(s) is/are in motion. i know some little secrets to make your subwoofer a little louder.
Edit - http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html
cool site, you can make a subwoofer box on there. i made one from their dimensions and it sounds amazing. this site lets you create your own box. give it a try. also, if you want loud then get aeroports because bass travels in circles but if you want just nice get slotted. to also make it a little louder, make the corners 45degrees. and to make it hit harder put fiberglass resin on the inside of the box.
