So I rebuilt this A6 motor (top end) this summer after I bought it and I think my gas mileage is ridiculously low. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? I've never dealt with an issue like this before and this morning is really the first time i've given it any real thought. Typically I don't care, but now that it's so cold outside I have to let the car idle for 10-15 minutes before getting in it which is making it even worse.

It's an auto, rt4wd (could be a cause but by how much?), ~180 miles per fill up in the summer down to ~100 in the winter.

Head was hot tanked, new valves, head rebuild kit, cleaned TB and all the ports, new intake/oil filters, fresh main relay...

Suggestions please. This filling up once a week (even it is only 9 gallons) is killing me. Mostly because i'm standing outside in the cold to do it. LOL

Well.. Besides the named things i've already done, no. I've never actively tried to gain fuel mileage so i'm not sure where to start. I didn't have time to research yesterday so I plan to do that today.

One thing to note, I think my gas gauge may be off. I can't top it off according to the gauge. If I keep tapping the gas handle to squeeze in every last drop, it will start pouring out before the needle even crosses the full line. So... I'm wondering if maybe when i'm filling up i still have a few gallons left? Too bad I don't want to risk running it too low in the winter. That's a bad situation even with a gas can ready to go. I should probably change the pump and fuel filter. I have no idea when or if those have been changed but I really didn't want to since i'm swapping in a K later this winter at which point those will be upgraded.... hmmmmm

Now that I read this, I suppose I should check how many gallons this wagon can hold, and then subtract how much i'm filling up and blah blah blah.... It's early.... and cold... LOL

(EDIT: Fuel Tank Capacity: 11.9 Gallons) It appears I'm filling up too soon and my gauge is off. Now I have to research how to fix the gauge..

Yep check how much it holds. Change fuel filter and also check for leaks.

I usually check for gas leaks around hondas by taking a lighter and holding lit while walking slowly around the vehicle.

Seems to be the best way ive found to detect a fuel leak :thumbs up
