Alright I think I am going to buy a 97HX CPE. It has alot of extras but high miles 130,000. I am getting it for $3900.

First question is: Do you think this is a good deal? Has exhaust, intake, body kit and some other extras. Power everything and a sunroof I believe.

Second question is: It has a D16Y5- 1.6L SOHC VTEC. Is this a decent motor? I know I would prefer a DOHC VTEC but can I expect to be able to get some gains out of this motor? Also, I want to stay NA.

Thanks!

BTW: I just ran a vehicle history check and all came back clean. But it has 2 different Auto Auction listings on there. Should I be worried about this?

well if it was auctioned twice, that means someone eitehr bought it and traded it back in fast, or no dealers thought it was worth it to buy.. neither is good it also means the car has had several owners, which is never a good sign either. and that motor sucks, it would have to be swapped. i would suggest getting something else.

if you want to go NA on a 1.6 soch vtec-e. if you want it fast, you would need to spend at least $5k

Well looks like this is the car I am getting. I am getting a really good price on it so I can't pass it up. Definitely has some rice that will go bye bye very quickly. Here are some pics. Tell me what you think. BTW, an engine swap will be somewhere in the future!

i thought that was a different car than u were talking about in the first part of ur post becasue u said it had a bodykit and sunroof and the one pictured didnt have either. but high miles are nothing for a honda like i said my 96 cx has 395,000miles and i picked up an extra year 2000 50k engine for $300 and i need shocks $200 and new axles $120 if u work on s**t ur self miles mean nothing for a Honda. s**t working on my car is relaxing until i busted my finger open and had a $1500 doctor bill. lesson learned is do it right and/or get some mechanics gloves because i could have spent that $1500 on a homemadeturbo.com kit:D

Well when you get the hx if you keep the motor you can do a lot to it now that most people dont no there is a turbo out there that will fit it go to http://www.turboneticsinc.com/ there t3/t4 turbo will fit on your hx i have a 2000 hx with turbonetic turbo and intercooler it made a big improvment on hp i got more out of my hx then i thought i ever would. you can also just go with the basics like intake injen or aem make the best, header you can get a dc or obx they are both good. i have thermal stealth cat back and it is awsome but i see you already have one so you dont have to worry about that. you can also get cam gears www.planetperformance.com has some for pretty cheap and you can get your engine bored out also if you do just the basics you will notice a big difference then having the engine stock.. that is just my opinion i started off with just the basics then a friend told me about the turbonetics turbo so i jumped all over that.

i don't mean to reiterate, but this is what i would do if i had an hx... this is written is random order (as it appears on my mind)... this all depends on what your goals for your hx are. my personal goal is to achieve at least 200whp, so this is what i would do...

1. swap the y5 head to a y8, swap the ecu. you might as well build the engine while you're at it, or at least sleeve it and change the rods & pistons.

2. boost the sohc! you can build a custom setup (cheapest, plus you'll learn a lot), or purchase a kit (pricier, but it's all bolt-on)... don't forget to invest in proper fuel management and dyno tuning.

OBX is just not a quality brand. It is cheap and not a wise decision. I'm sure a lot of people on here would agree. Tell your friend to go for a DC headeR.... you only have one header my friend.
