D16Y7 - Idles great but won't rev up! Timing belt??

I'm stressing out.. I have a 98 Civic LX D16Y7. The problem I'm having is, the car will idle fine but will not rev up at all. The second I give it any gas it acts like it cuts ignition. Also, I pulled the the air filter out and rolled the throttle by hand. If I feather it I can get it to rev up a to around 3k but it will back fire through the throttle body. I thought I must have the timing belt off but I've checked it and it is still doing the same thing. I'm questioning myself on if I know how to do a set the cam timing the proper way but everything I've read shows that I'm doing it correct. Any suggestions??

Thanks, I did double and triple check that one. I can't figure it out. I thought maybe I some sensors mixed up but I can't see any that are wrong.

Anyone else? Like I said, I've checked my timing. I also checked my ignition timing with a timing light and everything checked out. I installed new spark plugs, new plug wires and swapped my distributor with one that I had from a spare motor. Still having the same problem.... This is owning me!

Detail how you set the ignition timing to spec.

What CEL codes are thrown?

How did this problem come about?

Is this a newly purchased car?
