D16y7 to D16y8 (will the D16y8 install be without any extras?)

I have gone through three engines on my 1997 Honda Civic DX, all of them the D16y7 and all of them the same problem, (thrown rod). I was thinking about trying the D16y8 engine due to the fact it seems that the engine is more capable of higher revs than the D16y7.

My question is, will the D16y8 drop right in with no additional purchases? Thanks.

Three engines? How is this happening? Forgetting to monitor the engine oil? Constant 7K rpm revving?

You need the Y8 ECU, engine wire harness, and exhaust system. Could be more.

And the Y8 is a bad choice for a presumed high revving guy like you as it has crankshaft oiling problems.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the Y7 and Y8 have the exact same rods?

Thanks Ron much appreciated. Well as the engine is now I am not sure if it is a rod or if the water pump went out, blew a head gasket then the engine lost compression and seized up. That is my opinion, but I have not been able to take her into the shop yet.

As far as your question, yeah I revved a little high the night the problem happend. While playing with a vette. The engine did not seize up while I was revving though, the engine seized up on the slow down. There was a rattling sound in the engine bay then the engine eventually shutdown and seized up.

I am deciding if I am going to rebuild the engine or just replace the engine again and stop over revving.

Performance Add-ons:
(Self built cold-air induction system, 60+ HP Performance Chip, short-throw shifter, straight pipe muffler replacement)

Lol performance chip. That's your problem. Get rid of that s**t asap. Y7 and y8 blocks are the same the only difference is the head.

Well that was a concern. That the performance chip is too much of a boost in power for the internals of the engine.

I tell you though, that performance chip made my car ten times more fun to drive.

What?

But yeah, the performance chip is bogus.
I can admit that I am not used to vehicles that are not V8's, so do you think the 18-inch wheels could have something to do with the problem? Maybe too big and heavy for the little engine?

Its plug and play just need a different manifold and a vtec ecu as well as an ex harness or you can just tap into the ecu with y7 harness

ive heard that you can use the engine harness but youll need the new ECU, the motor (obviously), and a Vtec wire to go from the head to the ECU.
