It is great to be part of this forum. I have been reading it for several months, but didn't get around to joining until now. I have already learned a lot and I know I will learn more. =)

Here's my ride:
1998 Honda Civic EX Sedan (original owner)
  • AEM CAI
  • Mid-grade Pacesetter headers
  • Flowmaster PE
  • Carbon Creations Supersport hood w/hood pins
  • ASA 17" rims w/Fusion tires
Turbonetics turbo kit is enroute! I can't wait to install it.

What will you be tunning it with?
Have you got the supporting mods you need for the turbo?

I think I'll go with the Eibach lowering kit for around $550. Looking at Walbro fuel pump, AEM or Skunk 2 fuel rail, MSD ignition/coil. That will add another $350. If I go with Venom Super Flow injectors, add $250. I am at $1150 and haven't even got to the internals. What can I get for under $850? Pistons, connecting rods, rings, gaskets, etc... I want to beef up the internals to handle at most 10 PSI. I would actually like my engine to last a little while. If anybody has a list of items and prices they can give me, I would appreciate it. I am just not that knowledgeable about forced induction or cars after the advent of fuel injection. Thanks for your initial feedback and am looking forward to any more advice. I will get a current photo of my engine and will post a follow up after installation.

Im pretty sure they ingntion coil isnt needed. The accel super coil is only 60 bucks from summit though.
Dsm blue top injectors can be had for cheap and are 450 cc if memory serves me correctly. Alot of people i know use them on boosted hondas
tein springs can be had for cheaper depends on how low you want to drop her.

Ok. AEM fuel rail and Walbro pump enroute. I took Emerican's advice and am now bidding on a Denso 450cc injector kit right now; hoping to get them for under $165. Turbo kit will be here tomorrow. I am trying to avoid engine management for awhile. If I keep her at 7 psi, do I really need to spend $1000 on engine management? What are my options if I decide to go beyond 7 psi, perhaps to 10 psi?

There is no way to run it untunned and not mess up the engine no matter what psi its set at.
To have the turbo and all work you need the fuel fump injectors etc, but with no way for the ecu to compensate for all the extra it most likely wont even run if it does it will run horribly and isnt safe on the motor to drive.
You can run it on different engine managment though but tune is the one part of turbo cars you absoultly cant cheap out on its the thing that keeps your car reliable and your engine safe.

Its all really what the person who will be tunnig the car is best and most comfratable with to be honest. There are a good but of options to look into though hondata, chrome, neptune etc.

What does anybody think about the pros and cons of going to OBD1 setup with chip based on upcoming setup or going with AEM EMS?

What can I get for $500.00? Can I get a decent used EMS? How about piggy back systems? With my lack of expertise with newer cars (or any car) should I have it professionally tuned?

Turbo kit (Turbonetics), fuel rail (AEM), adjustable fuel regulator (AEM), fuel pump (Walbro), and 450cc injectors (DSM) are either already here or on the way. Other than fuel management, is there anything else I need to run my civic at 7-8 PSI? Are their any minor mods I can add such as ARP bolts etc....

You should get it tuned by a professional and them doing the tune alone can cost you 300-500 dollars. Unless you are a beast with the piggy back systems they arent going to give you a proper tune and it wont last long.
There is one member out of all the members on here who has a reliable turbo car tuned on safc.

If I have the whole kit professionally installed, does that typically come with tuning? After all, how will the techs be able to check their work if they don't tune it. I didn't really want to spend that type of money, but if I'm going to pay for tuning, maybe I just go the whole way. When I look at all the wiring in what I consider a new car, it makes me sick to my stomach. Even more than working on old Fords where I had to keep changing wrenches (I wish they were standardized), but I digress.....

Should I just let some S*#t hot ASE master tech do everything and just dump a bunch more money on this project which has cost me more than double what this car would have been worth? Maybe I should start acting my age. listen to my wife, and just by some European Sedan like a BMW or an neo-American muscle car.

I like my headlights just fine, but I agree with you on the tail lights. So, what goes well with a Pearl Black paint job?

50/50 tails would look real good
If you arent comfratable installing it then you should let someone do it im not sure if it comes with a tune though the ones me and my friends have done we have installed then taken it to get it tuned save money that way.
