Wassup guys. I have finally done enough research to come to the conclusion that I would like to swap out my motor for the b18c1. Plz don't ask about my decision it's just what I've decided to go for based on speed and money. I just want to know if any of you have done this swap or know anyone that has and how it's worked out for them. I'm currently looking for a motor and transmission locally since I've already found someone to help me install it. The car is a 97 EX. Here's the bad part: it's automatic. Which is why I'm looking for tranny too. Anyone have any advice/tips to offer?

my friend swaped a b18c1 into his 97 hatch....ran a 14.4....he had nothing but high praise about the swap, and i never heard him talk about any problems....as long as you have someone that knows how to do the swap, just get the motor and tranny and have fun with it

A buddy of mine has that swap in his 96 coupe! Now, the auto's going to kill you, are you going to go for a manual conversion? Good luck!

I dont think it really matters if your car was auto before the swap because you have to get a b series tranny. Just get a manual tranny and your set.

yea but you will still have to get shifter linkage and change out your console for the new 5 speed thats comming in. Your swap might be a big more considering that you have to do those things but worth it. A guy at my work have a 97 civic with a b18c1 and he ran a 14.4 and a 14.0 with NOS so great choice in the motor selection =)

yes it does matter, it matters a lot. the differences in manual and auto vehicles is deeper than just the transmission, and they are NOT interchangeable easily. unless this person has done auto to manual swaps before, i suggest either selling your car and buying one with a manual in it or getting a second car (with a manual) and putting the b18 in there. it will be much cheaper in the end, and work better too.

You'll need a diff ecu, radiator, gauge cluster to change from the automatic crap in the cluster, and you'll need a new wiring harness. If you're doing the swap, then the auto to manual won't be such a big deal cause you'll need a new tranny anyways. Try to get LSD put in. My friend got a B18C1 put in his civic and the guy didn't do the wiring harness right. Because of that, the V-TEC wouldn't kick in and he ran a 16.3. After he got the problem fix,($700) he ended up running a 15.3, but that's cause he is a horrible driver. You should run faster. Good luck with everything.
