Whats up clubcivic im new here and i recently bought a ej1 but the pistons rings are pretty much fried, a friend commented me about just putting in a new block with less miles if im going to do all that work for just rings. The engine has 191xxx and i wanted to work on it to make about 450+,my original plan was to swap it to a GSR and start there, but i done a bit of research on that engine and ive read that its a pretty damn good engine. Turbo ready and stuff. So i wanted some opinions on wheather to rebuild this engine to that much HP or swap it to a newer GSR and build it there. What would be best? Should i replace parts on the d16z to have it haul ass or should i swap it and proceed? Need help anyone! Thanks!

Its really up to you on what you decide to do, both those engines are capable of producing the hp your looking for. Just depends on the amount of cash you have to spend.

450hp out of a D16Z6? Has that been done before by a Joe Schmo? lol If those are the numbers you want, you're waaay better off starting with a swap. I think stock with high mileage the D16Z6 would be lucky to see 100whp... Although a great motor, not a great platform for high HP. Unless you like to break things and have more money then you know what to do with.

Damn that guy is pushing 500+ on that d16? Daaamn, what should i do would it be a good idea to rebuild it with strong internals? Or nah? Cause i wanna be smart about it know what i mean. Would it be good to replace block nd head nd new internals to make those numbers?

That's an obtainable goal and has been done plenty of times. If you're going to rebuild the motor completely and boost, it doesn't really matter what platform you're starting with since your goal is 450. Sure starting with a gsr gives you more whp and tq figures to start, but once you factor in the cost of the swap and higher priced internals for the rebuild you end up spending quite a bit more to reach the same goal a little easier. Base your decision off of what you want sitting under the hood and your bank account. Neither route is a bad option.

Yes your going to want to build it with very strong internals for that hp, since you will have to run pretty high boost for that goal.

Really all depends on what you want to spend, just do some research on different setups and put a parts list together.

If you dont know what internals you need to sustain that much power, I think you need to spend a lot of time researching turbocharging a car.
