D16Z6 Turbo

Hey everyone,
I have some weird problem. I have a fully built block (D16Z6) with vitara pistons, eagle rods, ARP head studs, etc. The head is stock just ported and polished. The tranny is stock, the flywheel is stock but the clutch is XTD stage 4. And it's street tuned & running on 6 psi.

Now, when i drive it normally or go easy on it, the gears will change like butter. But when I wana race or drive it hard, which requires shifting quick before red line, it will never shift and it won't go into 2nd and sometimes into 3rd. Sometimes it grinds at 4th too. But again if I drive it hard and shift at like 5000 or 6000 or in between, it will shift.

Anyone knows what's the problem ? is the tranny slower than the engine or something ? please help..

thanks in advance =)

If you shift slow at higher rpm's will it go in smooth? Or does it only happen when you do it fast?

Thats what i do, i rev to the limit then i shift slow but by that time the rpm already dropped. I'll do couple more shifting tonight, i'll let couple of my friends to drive it too, and i'll let you know. Just to see if it's coming from me or if its the same with any driver.

Could be the syncros in your tranny but weird it only does it in high rpm... Try bleeding your clutch you might be a air bubble in the system

i was reading about the D2B (d16 with b16 trans) and im thinking about making one, caz i already have an EM1 but don't know how much it will cost. there is no point doing it if its way too expensive..

so i did some research and some people said changing the transmission fluid might help (it helped a lot of people). But I can't decide which fluid to get ? some said GM fluid, or honda MTF, or amsoil, or royal purple, im so confused. Any help guys?

anyone knows what is the best transmission fluid for a turbo D16 ?

have you checked the mounts to make sure youre engine is rocking too far.

its a long shot but Ive seen a broken front engine mount cause the linkage to bind at an angle and the car not wanting to go into gear

food for thought

use regular motor oil in the transmission works perfect for my b16, if you use syncromesh beware that it does make everything shift better but it brings the friction level up between the gears so you are actually putting more strain on your gears and synchros with it but it does work like a charm. Worst comes to worst just put another d series tranny back in around me there cheap like $125 , supposedly d series trans are the strongest honda trans they mafe in that time period stronger than b series trans

ok so a motor oil is better ? something like 10w40 ?
and how can you check your motor mounts ?
thank you..

Mounts are easy open the hood and watch if the engine jerks a certain way when, but u have to have someone put it into 1st and some what let the clutch grab without stalling so don't just dump the clutch wait till it grabs. That will help you check that back mount mostly

look at the bushings inside the mounts, you can also feel it letting off the gas and getting on it it will jerk slightly but most do anyway

or take the hood off and drive it and watch for it lol
