dash problem...earth???

i have a 94 eg, previously a 1.5 auto trans.

now a b16a1 obd1 manual trans.

the problem....

when the headlights are on, the dash, windows, sunroof, heaters, indicators do not work.

the sunroof doesnt work even when headlights are off.

the heaters work when HL are off but then the dash, windows, indicators don't work.

weird thing is that when i switch the HL on and set the wiper arm to fast and then switch the wipers on via seperate switch, everything works!

another thing, the wipers wouldnt work first so i connected them to a switch...but we didnt connect any wires to the battery.. we simply grounded 1 wire (from the wiper wires) and it works via switch.

i checked the ground in the engine bay near trans, thats fine.
checked the ground from rocker cover to chassis, thats fine.
checked 1 ground under the dash on drivers side, thats fine.
checked the ground behind intake, thats fine.

i cant see any other grounds.

i was told there should be a few by the centre console, but cant see them.

i have a eg9 interior loom, if i fit this, will it solve all this?

or could it be a ground somewhere..???

any help would be greatly appreciated..
and if i could get any diagrams that would be great..

thanks in advance

Just for clarification, the cluster back lights and heater control panel lights (controlled by dimmer switch) don't work when the light switch is turned to the headlights position but do work in the parking lights position, right? Same for all power windows, right?

Have you checked the sunroof fuses -- #1 (30A), #14 (20A), and #36 (50A)?

Nothing works at both dim and full headlights.
Ive checked the sunroof fuses, they're fine.
Everytime i press the sunroof button, the dash goes crazy and makes a dying buzzing sound...
Any ideas..?

Here's where to start:

1) Replace 10A fuse #19 under the dash with a known good fuse. Do the dash lights now work?

2) If not, remove the dimmer switch from the dash and unplug the connector (see diagram). Install a jumper wire into the connector so that the red wire and black wire terminals are connected. Do the dash lights now work?

3) If still no dash lights, then test the light switch (see diagram).

thanks for help. my car doesn't have a dimmer switch.

we fitted a eg9 loom but same problems.

so, we had the headlights and turn signal on and then took a fuse out, 1 by 1.

when the tail light fuse came out, the dash started working (apart from dash light), the turn signal started working, windows started working. heaters and sunroof didnt though.

but the rear lights stopped working (plate lights and the back lights-dim red)

brake lights worked though (when i press brakes)

so, we connected a wire to the front so the rear lights work along with front..

but now the dash doesn't work and everytime i press the brakes, nothing works! headlights on or off..

i was told it could be the dash..? i still have my auto one there..

any ideas..????

If you don't have a dimmer switch, then how are the dash lights wired up? If you reinstall dash fuse 19 (taillights, dash lights, parking lights, license plate lights) but disconnect the jury-rigged wires to the dash lights, do the rear lights, cluster gauges, turn signals, and windows now work?
