hey i just bought a car and i've encountered a weird problem. the previous owner said he installed a deck by himself and he wired it up wrong so it pulls from the battery even when the car is off. guess what i found today...battery's dead. so what should i do to remedy this? and looks like he DIY an alarm install too...could that be draining the batter? help guys..thnx.

The alarm, stereo, your car's own ECU...etc... all pull power continuosly. Just a few milliamps though when properly installed. You got some back probing to do for excess parasitic draw.

Either that, or much less likely you could just have a battery with an internal voltage leak. If you leave your battery disconnected overnight and it dies, then your battery is bad.

Unfortunately, electrical problems are usually the easiest thing to fix and the hardest problem to find :what:

so should i take it to an audio shop and have them properly reinstalled the deck and the alarm...or take to a repair shop to troubleshoot the electrical? anybody have any ideas on how to pinpout the problem?

if i were you i would just pull it out and make sure he has the right harness and all the wires that he connected are the same color(s)

thats exactly what i would do, check your harness and make sure its wired right..especially your remote wire. You can also test your battery to make sure it holds a charge

a deck shouldn't have enough power to drain the battery, it would take an extra amp being left on, or a really long period of time. first thing i would do is go to an autoparts store and have them check your electrical system (battery, alternator..). they usually do it for free, just bring the car over when they're not busy.

In very rare occasions does the alarm or deck put enough of a parasitic load on the battery to kill it. I would venture to say even though the install might be crap he has a bad battery or a bad alternator.

if you turn the car off and the deck will still work then it would drain the power.

there should be a yellow and a red wire comming out of the back of the deck, make sure they are hooked connected to the corresponding wire on teh decks plug and that they arent connected to eachother

i'll post that again tomorrow when i'm not druiknk'nstoned
