Disabling internal wastegate for external..

Ok.. so my dad has a T3 off of a 240 series volvo with an internal wastegate. The waste gate actuator is broken (the big round piece).. i was wondering if it would work if i tac welded the internal wastegate completely closed and used an external wastegate on my setup. any thoughts?

remove the internal and cap off where it connects to the turbo. Then you can run external. Seen this done quite a few times.

Edit: Well... not cap off, but some how add an adaptor to connect a vacuum line to.
