This is something I noticed with mah beeyatch... when I try to start it, the motor has to turn over like 3 times before it actually starts, and it turns over reeeeaaaalllly slow, like the starter had gone retarted or something. Anyone else have this problem on their D16y8's? Do I need a new starter motor?

Does sound like your batterys on the way out. Not providing enough juice to crank it over.

Just take it into an auto parts store and they should be able to check the battery for you.

Hook some boost cables up to your battery from a friends car and let it run for 1 minute. While it's running (you should prep for this beforehand) disconnect the battery from your car after taking the cables off and LEAVE your car running. If it can run for a good 5 minutes without the battery connected then it's not your alternator.

if that dont work, keep the key in the on position for a little bit before starting it.

Ya its either a batt or alt. if its been over 5 years, then the battery is probably overdue to be replaced. the OE batteries dont last a whole lot. But if that's the case, you'll want to replace it as soon as possible because the alternator will constantly see a low charge on the battery and try to charge it, resulting in a burned out alternator (dont leave on your rear defrost! ive seen them destroy alternators when left on!). And if it's getting colder where you are, thats going to make the battery fail even sooner. Time to get an Optima battery!

Mine does the same thing, mostky in the mornings though.
All I do is like Seanmc300 said, leave the key in the on postition for a few seconds, this lets the fuel pump kick in all the way, instead of trying to pump fuel and start the motor at the same time!
Good luck man!

my guess is the starter, but could also be the battery, get the battery check or try to do a jump start and if it still starts up slowly, then its the starter. my starter went out a couple of months ago, i knew it wasnt the battery cause i replace last year. before my starter went out, for 2 weeks it cranks up really slow, the last few days before it completely died it crank up really really slow. then one day, it wouldnt even crank, no clicking, nothing. lucky i had a 5 speed, i just push start that sucker.
