dome light wiring???????

Okay Ladies and Gents....heres my problem....i bought
some led door sills off of ebay about 3 years ago and im just now
trying to put em on....the sills have a red and black wire coming from
them....i want them to come on when the door is opened(just like the
dome lights),......i tried hooking the red wire to the switch on the
door(that activates the dome when the door is opened)and then found a
good ground on the car for the black wire...however by hooking them up
this way the door sills would only come on when the door is
closed....dome lights still worked correctly...whereas they would turn
off after awhile even if the door was opened, but the sills wouldn't
work at all...my dilemma....HOW WOULD I HOOK UP A POWER SOURCE FOR THE
SILLS SO THAT THEY WOULD WORK JUST LIKE THE DOME LIGHTS...OPEN
DOOR....THEY COME ON....CLOSE THE DOOR....THEY TURN OFF....ABSOLUTELY
ANY HELP ON THIS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

pressure switch in your door jam. maybe look at radio shack or an autoparts store to see if they have switches that activate using pressure. make your new lights their own circuit rather then piggybacking on an older one

or find that door chime that you here when the drivers door is open and tap into that
