double-din in a 2000???

Alright well I just bought a used 2000 EX since I'm sick of the costly repairs with VW's and I'm really liking this car. I've also been installing professionally for quite a few years and just recently someone gave me the idea of putting a double din in that area. I've been thinking about the AVIC-N3 but someone told me the AVIC-D2 would fit as well. I'm just wondering if anyone has actually tried fitting a double din in there. From what I rememeber the space on a Honda is just a little bit too wide and not quite tall enough? Can anyone shed some light on this? Any pics of a successful install?

BTW I did use the search option and no help there so any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

First a double din should fit, from what I know they are tall enough but not quite wide enough. I was going to toss in an Eclipse AVN but decided to do some motor work instead.

Second, where is WI are you from?

Of course a double DIN would fit. You would just lose that space underneath it is all. =)

If you want that area stock-ish, I have seen mods to add either DIN or 2DIN to the area in fornt of your shifter, thus maintaining that space....but losing the larger area down there...

the double din fits fine.. you will still need a trim kit.. not sure if the unit comes with one but i had a double din unit in my girls civic and there was small gaps all around. with the trim kit it fixed that issue.

Do you have any pics of it installed? I had my heart set on the AVIC-N3 but now if I can do the double din for sure then I'm thinking either the Z1 or the D2. Thanks.

The more I mess around with the pioneer units the less Im impressed. The quality of the build is going down hill on the Pioneer video systems.
I would have to vote the n-3 being the worst out of all of them.

Alpine did finally come out with a double din in dash this year. Very nice unit with the pulse touch. Everything good about Alpine is built in.
Now for the navigation, heres a first. The Alpine Blackbird.
A portable nav peice that when coupled with the dock station will provide full nav controls from your in das.
Basicall the alpine setup is about $200 more than the n-3

Dock the blackbird in the center console in the main car and have a nav to go into any other car you want.
Plus alpines just sound better

Do you know of any aftermarket set ups that have that or is it a pure custom thing?

I haven't had much experience with Pioneer lately so I have honestly no idea about the quality. My second option was the Kenwood DDX-8017 if anyone is familiar with that unit.

I know the Kenwood and the Pioneer double dins have trim rings are are designed for DIN mount as well as ISO mount. I honestly would like the double din unit but I don't want something that looks like crap. That's why I'm asking if anyone has any pics.
