downfall to having an A/T

well i am currently looking and researching to start getting everything ready for when my car comes out the body shop, and i am putting a t25 turbo in my car, don't want anything to big as i might not be keeping the d16 engine, however since i have an automatic tranny i am haing trouble doing a conversion, i have researched allover and only found one place that has an OBD2A to OBD1 conversion harness however they are wanting 400.00 just for the harness, now should i just purchase this and suck it up and look at spending well over 2000.00 for putting together my own turbo(unless someone has a better idea), or should i just start getting things together to do a engine swap and tranny swap and make my car a manual? any ideas

Well my two cents would be to get an AFC and use that. They're not as good as a chipped ecu but it'll get the job done. make sure you have a good tune and you should be fine.

And IMO keep the d, get a ex tranny, and build the bottom end

Built d > engine swap of any kind

yes i was also looking into the i believe don't quote me on this one SAFC if i am not mistaking and yes the car is an ex so i already have the tranny in it, and my plans were to build both the bottom end and top end already have everything to build the top end just waiting on the parts for the bottom end, well to save money looks like i will just go with the AFC

Well I meant later on get a ex 5spd because an AT will be fine for low boost but not for high whp. The Apex-i VAFC is what I would get if I was trying to stay obd2.

ah ok i c what you are saying now and as far as the AFC yes i was just on their website and checking out the V-AFC II and you have the option to purchase the plug and play harness(may not do this), yeah i am only looking to maybe boost at 6 psi nothing higher, and yes i would love to have a 5 speed just i picked this car up for so cheap couldn't pass it up if you know what i mean

yeah i wish i could pick one up for under 100.00 but the going prices are from 50-130.00 and are only for manual trannies, the one that i had my eye on and just decided that i will pick up a V-AFC for 250.00 since for an auto tranny the conversion harness is way more expensive since the harness also has to include the auto tranny module on top the ECU. it stinks this i know and considering i could probably just do a tranny swap for alot less well not really but atleast i would have what i want

buy a normal conversion harness, then find the ecu pin outs, and run the extra 3-4 wires.

The afc on low boost isn't very good. I would suggest researching it but here are the main points:
-the hack requires bigger injectors to be leaned out. The AFC being a piggyback system advances the timing when leaning out (the "-" negative range)
-since advanced timing isn't good for boost you have to manually retard your timing
-the more boost you run (up to around 10-11psi max for AFC) the less you have to retard your timing and the safer the hack becomes.

Hope this helps.
