hey i'm new to the site and from the uk

I was thinking about buying some rit dye and dye my current ej9 grey carpets, red. do yous think they will turn out right because of the original colour? has anyone tried this? Had a look at the "how to" section about dying carpets, 5 packets of rit dye sounds more than enough lol. Thanks

unless your carpet is white to start with(i guess you could bleach it), and you use A LOT of die, it wont turn out good for red. just go black, it will look way better. also, spraying with fabric paint works much better.

I'd suggest buying new carpet if u have the cash cuz i always hear about dyes fading and looking ugly but I might just have been hearing from some cheap skates who didnt use enough

thanks for the reply guys. Yeh I was just wonderin if it will work out. It sounds less likely to work out too lol. I was going to buy 5/6 packets of rit dye too. Prob better to go black. But I think I'll got a carpet store before going ahead. ek9 carpets just cost abit too much. about £120 (about $195 i think)

I did it with my carpet still in the car. First I took a plastic spray bottle and filled it with a 50/50 bleach and water mix. Took out the seats and sprayed the carpet to bleach out the gray. Let it sit for a few days to make sure it dries. Then mix the Rit dye in the same spray bottle with Cold salt water. The cold and salt will allow the dye to stay in the carpet if it gets wet later. Vary your dye to water mixture to get the acquired color. Spray the carpet and take a soft vinyl brush and rub it in. Wait a few more days for it to dry or use fans etc. If you do not, the dye could leak onto your shoes etc. and also possible mildew. Other than that no other smells associated. Cost me a total of like 10 bucks and now I have red carpet!!!

Oh and for the above comments... yes after a while it will fade... just shampoo carpet and re-dye. Maybe once a year I would guess. I have not had mine done that long. In the end, I am looking at prices on actual red carpet. I want to get more sound deadening, as well as my carpet is 12 years old ya know.

I thought about dying mine red but it sounds like a big hassle. I rather buy red carpet.

There are floorpan molded kits on eBay, shipped to your door, in what ever color you want. 150ish. Why not?
