Does anyone know if dying the seats in my Civic will work? Im chaning my interior over to black, and eventually Im going to get new seats that are black, but until then, will using dye on them work just as a cheap alternative until I can afford new seats? Will it fade or anything?

I wouldnt try it, car seats are made of polyester wich is more resistant to dying than you would think, the color would be uneven because it would seap more in to worn areas. And if you wnet for black you would end up with mottled grey.

So besides re-apolstering them, theres no real way to make them black?

nothing that would look good, just go to auto zone and buy some plain black seat covers.

I had black/blue ones on awhile ago, but they got dirty, and I didnt wanna go thru the trouble of having to keep washing them. for some reason, when I had the seat covers on, they got REALLY dirty, but once they came off, the seat itself has stayed clean and theyve been off for over 6 months or so....Would re-apolstering them be worth the trouble if im going to buy racing seats in the some-what near (withing the next 1-2 years) future?

Re-upholstering FTW.

I've mentioned it so many times that the OGs are probably sick of the story, but I had a friend with a 92 Camaro. He got the seats and everything done in grey tweed, had a big Chevy Bowtie embossed in the headliner and had "25th Anniversary Edition" Embroidered on the door panels. It looked good.

Dear GOD man save up and buy u some seats off Ebay or try some other websites like andysautosportz.com More likely Ebay though u can get two race seat shipped to your door for like 400 if that . So save $400 or spend more trying to correct the mistake u will make of dying them cause that willl rub off on your clothes not to mention the smell

Exactly. Im saving up for them now, but the rest of my interior is black instead of the normal grey. I just want a temp solution to make the seats black so it matches the rest of the interior. Eventually, Im going to re-apolster the back seats with black, so I figured I might as well do the front seats as well. I used the Dupli-Color vinyl/fabric spray on the fabric on the door panels, and its slowly wearing off. X-aCuTiOnA, after you sprayed the seats, did they feel all funny/stiff like?

Mines isnt. The seats do feel different. The fabric juss hardened a little bit. What did you do to make the rest of your interior black? I been wanting to do that, but i dont know what approach to tak.

If anything, go to Michael's and buy some Dye rit and dye them that way. Its a water dye, so it seeps in the fabric. I did that on my carpet and it cam out good

I took all the panels off the car that I wanted black, prepped/cleaned them up REALLY good, take some adhesive promoter, spray that on the panels, let it fully dry, then take some of that vinyl/fabric paint, and paint them. Use multiple light coats until its how you like it. Then take some clear coat to it, and thats about it. Just make sure everything dries fully before moving on. Did this on a friends car, and came out really good. Im in the processof doing this to my car right now. My car seats aren't polyester....so the Dye Rit should work, right...?
