I want to get a new deck .. but only want to put it in my car during weekends...

is it hard to remove (the whole deck) during the weekdays and then putting it back on during weekends???

you could relocate the new one to the cupholders by getting a 96-98 cupholder section, and wire it so you can use one or the other... just an idea

that would be a ginormous pain in the ass. i don't believe it would hurt the deck, but... the keys for it would get all f**ked up eventually.

the reason for doing this is because i park my car at a VERY unsafe area during weekdays (for work). My system has been stolen TWICE (even with detached face!).

Therefore, just to be safe I just want to have a deck during weekends when I go out and enjoy my weekend....

Is pain in the ass eh?

ANYONE HAS OTHER SUGGESTIONS TO OVERCOME THIS ISSUE? they steal decks without the detachable face! wat can you do with a detached-face system???

its not a pain in the ass. i just installed the Pioneer 5900 in my car and i was too lazy to actually screw the system onto my climate control so the deck is easily removed. i have a detachable face so thats what i take with me when i leave the car......if i wanted to take the deck as well (rest of the radio) out...all i have to do is pull it out and unplug the harness and antenna and i am done. pretty easy and will not ruin your deck at all.

this is why i dont care that my thing is not screwed onto my car...cause i dont think anyone would steal a deck without the face to go with it but i guess some people do. haha. but my car is never parked outside for long anyways and its garaged kept at home so i am ok.

i still think it's a pain in the ass. even if removing the deck is easier... it's just... a pain. carrying that around. gee, i'd hate to forget it somewhere. :what:

if you don't think it's a hassle then you could do it, but i think it's a little strange.

i didnt quote the post (obviously) but someone said just dont bolt it to the dash, then you can just pull it out and unplug it. i did this with my stock radio in the cup holder DIN and worked fine (behind the cd player was were i kept my stash but keep that on the DL haha)

Crackheads don't care. They'll steal anything. :angryred:

...and you can buy just the faceplate on ebay....usually for as much as the entire H/U is worth

I had the Clarion deck in my old Celica mounted in the glove compartment. I left the old heap of donkey s**t factory AM/FM/MPX radio in the dash. It was a pain in the ass to change the radio stations or adjust the volume but nobody ever broke my window to steal a slide rule tuned POS deck. They would smash my ex-roomate's Camaro window for a Pyramid or Roadmaster but left mine alone.

I think thats a good idea, leave you stock deck in its location and either mount your aftermarket HU underneath the seat or in the glovebox where it cant be seen at all.

... or the guys who broke my window, messed up my door and dash to try to steal my screen and dvd player without their faces... they couldn't figure it out.

apparently they did not notice the headrest monitors that are simply pressure fitted into the seats. :rolf:

i'm in the process of replacing a screen, a tinted window, and a deck right now due to thiefs
and they left the plug to the screen behind... rendering it practically useless

gorilla glue that bastard in there, thats what i did because the stock head unit doesnt fit in the cup holder din. they'd have to take your dash with it if you do that.

dude, thats simple, when you put in the new stereo, dont bolt it in, so then you can just pop it out, thats how mine ahse been for the last year and a half, never really sits in there, because if some one does break into my car, "go ahead, steal my cheap stereo, just dont break anything"...thats what i think...
