Ebay Exhaust

I wanted to get a new header for my '98 ex as a small summer project. Ive got a few friends telling me I might as well change the catback too. I'm not too into the whole racing thing, I just like to work with cars so my apologies in advance if my questions sound "ricey"

Basiccally I'm thinking about ordering a header from ebay. They've also got combo selling both headers and catback at a more affordable price. My question is, has anyone dealt with an ebay exhaust before? Like those generic "N1 style" exhaust in particular. Do they all sound like fart cans? Is there a way to make it not sound so rice? Or is my only option to avoid a ricey sound is to get a magnaflow or borla?

Also, do I need to buy a new cat converter if I change the header, or can I somehow remove the stock one and reuse it?

If these questions have been answered before somewhere here, please direct me to it, I couldn't find an answer =)
Thanks

Alright. I JUST did this on my DX.

Is yours a Y7 DX? My cat was in the header, so I lost it completely with my Megan 4-2-1.

You'll need a test pipe or replacement cat for your stock cat, or you can go catless if you're not worried about smog (I wasn't).

I have the N1-style eBay catback that was $99.95 shipped. Quality bends, decent quality steel, great welds (my 3rd eBay exhaust, all cars have them). After ~ 1 week of this exhaust being on, I've already ordered and received a quality muffler (Vibrant flat black). My suggestion is pull the trigger on a name brand header, get the cheap exhaust for the piping alone, and put a quality muffler on it. Until I can get in to get this muffler welded in, I've got gnarly fart sounds, buzzing, whistling, etc... (the muffler is falling apart inside, it's not from being catless) so this new muffler should fix it. It's surprisingly quiet (2.5" w/ no cat) but I've also got a silencer in. Any other questions feel free to PM me. I JUST did this, so it's fresh in my mind.

I have a "n1 style" catback on my 2000 civic ex. I've had it on around 3 weeks now, and I like it. It was $149.99 shipped to my door. Fitment is perfect, no shortage, welds are solid, quality parts :thumbs up

Overall, it doesn't sound like rice. It's a bit loud.. but not overly loud. Sounds good.

Nice. I believe I have a Y8. It's actually a Canadian SI. But in past expereince it just confuses the heck outta ppl, so I just say its an EX. Excuse my ignorance, but whats the difference between test pipe and cat? I do want to be able to pass smog tests without having to exchange parts every couple years lol
But so far, thanks for your inputs. Might consider the ebay exhausts lol
