I am looking into buying a chipped p28 ecu from j-k-tuning.com and it asked what socket type I want, either a DIP or ZIF. What is the difference?

Its just the diff sockets. I would go with a ZIF since its easier to plug or unplug the chipp and it looks it down.
I would get this one. Click Me

Whats up with CC lately its been dead?

well i need an ecu too because i have the y7 ecu and am converting to a y8 and i think it would be easier to just get the crome chip from j-k-tuning.com. What do you mean about cc being dead?

dead meaning people dont reply to threads anymore and not alot of users are on here anymore. Most OG members have left. Get the p28 chipped but used the zip socket.

zif = zero insertion force. highly recommend zif'n your girlfriend... less abuse on the moving parts.

anyhow, zif is where its at.. like $7 more and youll never worry about breaking a chip again (there a b***h to pull out with zip sockets)

p28's are all the same as p06/p07/p08/p30/p72 with just a couple more frills and resistors for knock sensor and vtec. Any "p##" ecu can be modded for the obd1 application. p72s come "chipped" stock.

oops shouldve said p##. so voiding out p2p/p2e etc (thanks for the heads up, edited to avoid confusion)

Jspec ecu's are also smaller in size which can make them a little trickier to work on (mainly because of their layout)

Huh?? Last time I checked they needed socketed just like the rest.

But the ZIF socket is very nice for someone that will be changing chips alot. The only downfall is the ostrich doesn't like to sit in the socket very well. You need to trim a little around the side to clear the lever.
