engine cutting out while driving vtec

Hi guys im new to this site i drive a b16a vtec ballade but the car cuts out while im driving (it happens once in a blue moon) and when i try to start it sounds like a car that does not have any fuel but it eventually starts after a couple of mins, any ideas?

dirty fuel filter? faulty/burnt out fuel pump connection?
