check if coolant is in oill...could be a bad head gasket

You need to describe the problem more clearly. Is the idle speed too high? too low? fluctuating up and down?

Are there any problems while driving?

Does the CEL work? It should turn on for 2 seconds when the key is turned to ON(II).

hi to all i have a '95 ex coupe Vtec and im having the same problem. Mine is fluctuating up and down after it warms up.But when i first start it up it drops really bad and wants to shut off if i leave it alone and don't rev a little bit. I went for the AICV and cleaned it but no luck it was not that dirty anyways, now i wanna work on the FITV and cant located neither my idle screw, i just bought the car less than a month ago and its my first honda. Any help on what it might be?

Hey Ron, I'm having the same problem. Mine goes up and down from 200 to 800 RPMs on my '95 Coupe. There are no CELs. It just started doing it last week. I've had the car for about a month.

Clean and adjust the FITV as described at the link in my signature. If that doesn't fix the problem, then bleed the cooling system.

Aaaaah, the cooling system is probably it, I'll go drain and fill it. When I had the motor and tranny oil changed they said the coolant was a little below standard and should be replace. Thanks RON!

Bleeding the cooling system:

1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.

2) Push the dash heater lever/knob to MAX heat.

3) Follow the directions in the diagram below (hint: the bleed bolt is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine):

Couldn't I just drain the hole thing from the little screw at the bottom of the radiator?

There's absolutely no need to drain coolant from the system. Just exactly follow the procedure I posted.

I just followed this thread without bleeding the cooling system and it fixed my high idle 100%. My car used to idle really high when I turned it on, then the idle would fluctuate, but now it stays solid. Thanks Ron, your the man

You know RonJ i noticed this morning while i was warming up the car that when i turned on the heater all the way on high it made the idle completely still half way higher than 1rpm and it wouldn't let that car try to turn off. Any ideas there? It made it completely calm.

Your problem is a low idle only when the engine is cold, right? Turning the blower to high raises the idle speed because the ECU responds to the higher electrical load by telling the IACV to bypass more air to the intake manifold. Try cleaning the FITV and, if that does not fix the problem, then adjust the idle screw on the throttle body. Any CEL codes?

Yes and it makes it want to turn off and shakes, I really cant seem to find the idle screw at all like it shows in the pictures and FITV doesn't seem to be there, now i don't know if its me going crazy or what, look at the pics from my TB.
O and about cell codes i was looking for the connection to plug in the computer but was unsuccesful do u know were is that at?

I'm glad the problem is fixed, hopefully it solves my bad idle when i go to tackle the FITV.
