Engine leaking oil

My engine is leaking oil, about a quart every thousand miles. im pretty sure the location it is leaking is the part I have circled in the picture. Could someone please tell me what this part is called and its purpose. http://imageshack.us/a/img821/2226/file0201c.jpg

looks to be cam seal

That cam seal is a common poblem. I put in a alum an no prob since. Simple job ad not expensive
