Engine Oil and Antifreeze for a 96 Civic Ex.

Hi All ,

I was wondering what the best oil and coolant to use would be.

Any problem with using Havoline with deposit shield 5w-30 conventional.
Do you have to use Honda antifreeze or any 50/50 solution will be fine.

The oil debate is a great one and you are going to always find tons of mixed answers. I just use the weight the owner's manual calls for, only difference is I run full synthetic in all my vehicles. Always have, always will.

Same goes for the coolant. People's opinions always vary. I always use Honda coolant. None of that universal crap goes in any of my vehicles. Honda coolant for my civic and VW/Audi coolant for my Gli.

Can't thank you enough, since I just placed the order to be picked up lol.

I would go synthetic but was told since my car has 158k and has only used conventional 5w-30 better off not to switch. I also went with a motor craft oil filter which I forget to mention.

When I flush the radiator I'll stick with Honda coolant.

You are very welcome.

That is said a lot and I have no idea where it originated from. Mileage has no bearing on weather conventional or synthetic oil should be used. Synthetic is better in every way. It would actually probably help, but again this is a debate that has been going on forever. Conventional oil has been fine thus far so you are fine using it. Definitely won't hurt anything. The weight has more of a factor than anything else.
