engine swap

So let me be the first to say this is my first Honda. So if I ask a "STUPID" question its because I literally don't know. So i just bought a 98 Civic ex. The motor is knocking so an engine swap from my sisters unused 97 Civic dx just makes sense. So my question is can i swap the motor from the dx (which is hooked up to an automatic) to the ex? (Which is hooked up to a standard)

I started doin some research found out about a mini me conversion just using my y7 block and y8 everything else. Is this a tough task. Since seemingly the blocks are identical. I have a 97 dx d16y7 w auto trans and a 98 ex d16y8 w manual trans. I should in theory have everything i need right?

Yes you should have everything. On some cars, not sure about the civic, there are additional "posts" on the undercarriage of the car for the purpose of mounting stuff like clutch cables and brake lines. You might have to install one of these pegs via welding or find some other manner of suspending the cables from above the road. Other than that, since they're both d series engines, everything should bolt up perfectly. If you're not swapping the transmission and keeping the automatic trans from the knocking motor, don't even worry about the pegs. The old transmission will bolt right up to the motor. Wonderful thing about hondas is almost all the parts are interchangeable.
