Car's a 92 Civic sedan, 1.5l, manual.
Got the car not long ago and it has a host of little gremlins, I'll list them first to help correlate the issue.
Temp gauge is eratic, works for a bit and then stops.
Idle is high, normally 1500rpm UNLESS the temp gauge is working, then it settles to 1050.
Dash buttons don't light up, but the ambient lighting does around them.
Throws a CEL, normally around the time the temp gauge EITHER stops or starts working, odd.
I'll pull codes later today if I have time.
Has a slight spit at idle when the CEL comes on.
Revs fine, doesn't feel like it leans out at upper RPMs, will tach over if asked.
The AC doesn't work, but that doesn't bother me.
While all of these are a nuisance, since the GF is the one driving it, I've been commander by her majesty to fix the heater post haste.![Embarassed  ](/forum/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
The heater worked perfectly when I got the car, but suddenly one day the heater stopped getting hot. That sucked, but at least I could defrost. Then the blower randomly stopped blowing. Crap. Never had any issues with it. And when it did, the buttons stopped lighting up, though the radio works fine.
Well, sounds like a fuse issue, right? I haven't had time to check all the fuses, but this car does the oddest thing I've ever saw. As soon as you hit 55mph(<3mph>) it starts blowing hot air, and all fan speed settings work, but the button lights never come back on. Sounds good right, just hit 55mph once during your drive and have heat! Until you get down under 40mph, where it'll randomly shut off around 35 and won't come back on until you reach speed. I've played with the fan speeds trying to find a way to trick it to no avail.
I know the car won't pass Smaug, even with a new muffler and cat, but who can blame it?
Anyway, I get the feeling that some of these issues are connected to themselves somehow, it's just I don't have enough experience dealing with modern cars, I'm a professional motorcycle mechanic so I know my way around a multimeter but this is just odd. My thoughts on the smog issue are that it's either the upstream of downstream o2, or both, but I wouldn't think it's be this dramatic.
Thank you for your time.
