Anyone have any information on how to make the ecu not trip when it goes to engage vtec and notices its not there?

Im putting a 97 p2p ex ecu in my 99 dx.. basically i got this ecu for like $10 from a friend and i want the 600 rpm higher redline and am hoping that the fuel maps for the ex ecu will help me out a bit in the power department.

Anyone have any thoughts on this lemme know..

(and yes, im saving for a vtec head, turbo, and an engine swap so please no comments of that type).

it will throw error codes, and not work properly. you dont have a vtec solenoid, and if the ecu doesnt see that, it will throw a cel. keep your dx ecu until you get the ex head, it wont do you any good to change it.

was hopin the fuel maps and higher rpm would help out a wee bit... oh well...

guess i'll just have to wait.. unless i can figure out a way to trick it into thinking it has a vtec solenoid...

now another question.... would it be better to slap a vtec solenoid (being far cheaper than a new head) onto the d16y7 head and grabbing the vtec cam, than just plain getting a head?

wont work, sorry. vtec is an involved and integrated mechanism built into the head casting itself, its not something that can be added.
