whats up guys & girls, when i bought my car it had this huge fart can on it and a high flow cat. i put on a new muffler a few weeks ago, the Vibrant Performance one and the car is slightly less loud but still pretty loud. the guy at the muffler shop told me its bc my piping is too big.

think i can make it quiet by just putting in a much smaller diameter of exhaust pipes?

help!

you can either install a resonator (longer the length, the more quiet). Or you could rip out that system and install smaller piping.

Go find a stock exhaust at a junkyard or try to find one on craigslist. What kind of vibrant muffler did you get? I know a lot of them are straight-through flow for turbo applications and are pretty loud if ran without a turbo silencing it down.

the vibrant universal street power muffler. pretty sure its straight-through flow. would stock exhaust piping be too small considering i have the aftermarket cat & muffler?

install a larger resonator.

The general rule of thumb is if you have a 1.6L motor get a 16" resonator, 1.8L motor get an 18" resonator, etc. etc.

Id just do a longer one, with a 1.6 you'd even be good with a 18" resonator if you want to make it pretty quiet.

or you could just add an extra resonator :what:

If you just remove your old resonator to add a bigger one, it will still be a bit loud. It will quite down alot more if you just add a 2nd one, it may even make it sound nicer. ;)

but make sure you do even have one. I met a guy who thought his cat was his flex pipe

theres the high-flow cat, which my friend and i put in when i got the car (came with it) and back towards the rear of the car there's a resonator looking thing, so im assuming thats what it is?

i'll have to have the shop look at it again so i can be 100%

I disagree with biz, i ran a 24" resonator, no cat, and a mangaflow oval muffler and my car was incredibly quiet unless i was WOT. Even then, there was more motor noise than anything.

Heres a little sound clip; not the greatest but gives you a little bit of an idea. Seems really loud in the 'outside' but then on the inside about all you can hear is the motor

yeah, you have a muffler tho. I think he said he had a big ricer fart can. I'm sure it would quiet down some more but all I'm saying is to add another before the fart can.

you s**t sounds nice tho.

what do you do when you get a lsx?
The concept only seems to work for 4cyl motors, smartass ;)

Ahh gotcha, well I just misunderstood that part of it then. My fault.

It did sound nice with that setup, those videos are at least 3 years old now if not more. I miss it being quiet now,

current videos can be found here; unfortunately they're from cell phones so the quality is HORRIBLE. 1, 4 and 5 are most recent.

I say go back and slap your muffler guy in the face......Bigger piping aint gonna do jack for you...Vibrant mufflers are still kinda loud. It was made to look stock/sleeper but still performs, but still slightly quieter than those fart cans. My buddy got a vibrant on his eg...It is quieter than the fart can..but still loud. Get a unversal apexi ws2 muffler on ebay.....I got a full catback though and this thing sounds amazing....Youtube wich ever muffler you gonna buy and see it for your self how it sounds..........Here's a apexi WS2 sound clip:

the WS2 is quieter because it isnt a straight thru muffler.. It has restrictions, restrictions means quieter, but lacking performance
