Thats what I was thinking.. But I wasnt sure if the wastegate would actually set the boost lower then the set spring psibcivic94 said:a boost controller is the answer to your question.
exactlly what i was gonna say...usually on a sohc turbo you can boost a 7lb. spring and be ok. i can't remember how much psi that was running on my boost gauge but that was normal driving(i think it was around 5-7 psi). so you might wanna consider changing the spring.Shiznit said:basically if you use a 9lb spring and only plan on boosting 3.5-4 lbs then you run the risk of your boost spiking until it reaches 9lbs and at that point you may blow your engine

yes you can, it is true you can see bost spikes, but you are always going to be prone to boost spikes useing a mbc even to boost higher then your wg spring. The Grim Sleeper said:So can I use a manual boost controller to turn down the boost temporaly till the new spring comes in, if I dont race it, just easy driving???
yesMr.Luder said:so if i wana boost and i don't get a boost controller, my waste gate springs is set at 7psi...than i'll be only boosting 7psi right?
9 pounds shouldnt blow up you motor IF your motor isnt beat to s**t and your using bigger injectors i dont know what your set up is, but you motor should be able to easly handle 9 psi as long as is in good condition and your not running stock injectors. like i said i dont know your set up but you have supporting mods for the turbo then you should be able to drive it around at 9 psi as long as your not beating on the car. a nice easy drive on 9 pounds until a tune and i wouldnt even worry about spending the extra money on the mbc.Shiznit said:basically if you use a 9lb spring and only plan on boosting 3.5-4 lbs then you run the risk of your boost spiking until it reaches 9lbs and at that point you may blow your engine

thanks for putting it simple LOL!Going-West said:
i know it sounds like a good idea just useing the fmu right now but you will pay for it in the end. i know many people have told you already but its a bad idea. a fmu brings the duty cycle of the stock injectors much higher then they should leaving the possiblity for injector failure. there is a website something like tunertoys.com that sells their own injectors for like 199 or something it is deff worth the money.Mr.Luder said:thanks for putting it simple LOL!
but yea I'm plannin on to FMU instead of injectors. I know that FMU sucks but it's cheaper than injector's fuel tuner.
very trueShiznit said:i recommend this to everyone but if youre in the game for building a custom turbo kit then honda-tech's forced induction classifieds is where you should be looking for almost everything. 450cc dsm injectors with resistor box and clips can go for as low as $90. thats where i pieced together my kit
