This is for aftermarket alarms. I was hooking up some lights to my alarm system the other day, I wanted some cool blue lights to come on when I hit unlock/lock along with my parking lights. When I was driving that night, they came on when I turned on my parking lights/running lights. It sucks because I want them both to flash when I hit unlock/lock, but I only want the parking lights to come on when im driving at night. so how do you fix this? Add a spst relay onto the parking lights. When the power hits the relay, it drives the switch and simultaneously closes the relay-putting power to the parking lights(i.e. flashing them). and puts power to the other lights. But, when there is no power to the relay from the alarm, and you turn on the parking lights, the relay is open so no power can flow to the other lights. The only downside to this is that when you are driving at night, and if for some reason you hit unlock/lock-like if you were dropping someone off, it would latch the relay open and the other lights that you only want to flash on unlock/lock would stay on because they are receiving power from the parking lights via the relay. But then you just turn off your lights and turn them back on and it would close the relay. Anyways thats what I did today, so if you have been thinking of adding lights onto your aftermarket alarm system put dont want them to come on with your parking lights now you can.
