Family callout! 5.0 vs. Sohc?

Ok as the title states my older brother has issues a callout to me. He wants to race my civic at the local dragstrip on the opening day t-n-t. So I am in need of some advice or tips on how to beat him. He has a 89 mustang 5.0 all stock except for a set of heavy ass 18" chrome cobra r's and a drop in k&n panel filter. Meanwhile, my civic has I/H/E. Now the stipulation is that i can go on drag radials and he will give me the break ( meaning he cant move until i go). Or i go on slicks and 50 shot nitrous heads up.

Now take in to consideration i am almost a half second faster in a 1/8 than he is in his own car. So what do you guys think?

what motor do you have?

depending on the track conditions but if you think your car is solid enough to handle the N2O then tell him that you want slicks, 50 shot, and half a car on the start.

and as long as you know what your doing as far as driving and shifts then you might hang with him if not get him by just a pinch...

i would be going for the 50 shot and slicks and like stated you might hang with him or just squeeze by him.

You want advice on how to beat your brother who has a 5.0 Mustang? Buy a 5.7 Camaro.

thanks for the info.... now what size slicks do you think i should get? 14" or 15 inch tires?......If i get drag radials they will be 205/50/r15 bfg's.

Oh yeah the dragstrip is about 250 miles from my home in raleigh, nc....we will do this when i go home for the weekend...so space is limited....i can run the drag radials on the street..or stuff some slicks in the trunk....so i got to be careful with my decisions, so any ideas or help would be appreciated.

i raced s buddy that had a 91 fox body was originally a 4cly but was 5.0 swapped so it was lighter than a stock gt 5.0 with my 94 ex coupe bone stock motor just ex and intake. He wone but it was nothing crazy. So some slicks a 50 shot and good driving will possibly do it.

id do the radials, but dont bother heating them up in the burn out box, all youd be doing is wasting rubber lol

Considering a stock 5.0 with a good driver will run mid 14's and the y8 will run mid 16's with a good driver, I'd have to say nos is ur only chance. Or u could go pull 2 or 3 of his spark plug wires off right before the race. Then you could probly take him lol.

forget the nitrous, this is a good time to think about forced induction.

I don't care who the driver is, a stock 89 5.0 isn't touching 14 seconds.

not 14 flat but high 14s are possible

a geared+bolt on mustake is a full bodied N/A FWD honda's natural enemy. From a dig they'll hook and then youre playinig catch up. This y8 vs 302 thing I dont see happening

Is his mustang the one that weighs 3333 lb or the one that weighs 2754 lb?
If it's the 3333, you might just get him with the 50 shot. If it's the 2754, I don't think you'll win, unless he's a terrible driver.

50 shot on a stock motor? Sounds fun.

Gut the crap out of your car, leave nothing but literally the driver seat, shift knob, steering wheel and cluster, run on 1/8 of a tank of gas, get slicks, pull accessory belts off, and take the biggest s*** possible before the race.

Good luck.
