Fan Switch vs Thermoswitch

Is the fan switch and the thermoswitch the same thing? My EM1 (202k miles) is overheating at idle and traffic speeds. I flushed and replaced the fluid, changed the ECT sensor and installed a new OEM fan switch. The fan works when jumped, and the relays and fuses are good, yet the radiator fan won't come on when needed. Thoughts and ideas? I've read about the thermoswitch, but it seems to the same thing as the fan switch I replaced. What am I missing?

Bleed the cooling system as per the service manual instructions.

Not quite sure how to take that...

Besides, everyone knows the best way to get an answer on the internet is not to ask a question, but post the wrong answer. Totally did it on purpose.

I need a beer..
