last night noticed my fog light switch was melting. the contacts on the switch turned a whitish color and the switch smokes when the fogs are turned on. Is this the grounds or is it because i have my side markers rigged into the switch as well?

Load through the switch is too high.

Unfortunately you probably kicked that switch's ass. When you wire it back up you might want to find a new source for your sidemarkers

now you need to find out how many amps your fogs and your sidemarkers run on

either way. Remove the switch and all the wires and start from scratch.
And next time try running some inline fuses so you dont burn down your car.
And if you rig it again try to not park near anybody else

Do like Snoopy said, get some inline fuses, do some good wiring (Don't half ass it), and you should be good, but put the fuses to where you can easily get to them..
