its probably going to need a rebuild soon. you can put it on your car but not for long, if you search for t3 rebuild kits they're usually around 120$. can you move the shaft easily? how much play does it have? a new/freshly rebuilt turbo shaft is very stiff.

Wow.. now you got me thinking.. on my turbo, the shaft play is fine, but is also only spins only bout once. I never even thought of that as a factor... dont know if it means anything..

my brand new turbo spins forever. its probably just the fact that its used and has some build up on in it. i wouldnt worry about it as long as its not hard to move

What kinda buildup do you think? Is it this "coking" that i hear so much about?

like the kind of build up you see when you look into your exhaust only a little worse because it hasnt gone through a CAT yet. coking is when your turbo gets so hot that it makes the oil crusty. if thats happening to your turbo then you really need to think about ways to cool your turbo down more instead of relying solely on oil. if your turbo is coking then you should think about getting a sandwich plate adapter instead of tapping the block for the oil source. because if coking is happening, not only will it ruin your turbo, but it will ruin your engine since they are using the same oil
