i'm reposting this because i got no responses in engine tech, and figured maybe 4thgen guys would know:
okay, after avoiding it all this time, i've narrowed my problem down to the fuel pump on my 4G4D... it has no fuel pressure. so in order to get to the tank on this car, do i have to drop it? because i'm seeing on EF's and integras you can pop out the back seat to get to fuel pump with a plate on top, is the 4th gen 4door the same way? or must i drop the tank?, also read you get to it thru trunk, but looked and theres no plate like on my rex.. because i've heard if i drop the tank i'm going to have to replace some of the hoses and i really want to avoid that...any info would be great thx...

all 88-91 civics must have the tank dropped to get the pump out, i've already been through this with my last hatch, and know from experience that's what must be done, yes you'll have to replace hoses at the same time, but did you check out the fuel pressure regulator, if your not holding pressure it very well could be that the regulator is stuck open, and bleeding back off into the tank.

allrite guys, i didn't even have to fully drop the tank! i just dropped it to the ground on one side, then after a couple hours of moving it around so i could get all 6 of the 10mm bolts off the fuel pump plate off, i got it! i took the pump out, and there must have been a quarter inch thick of rust and grime and the sock was all sorts of clogged...i tested it, and all i got was a warm vibration, not fuel pump spin, dead pump...all that work was a success, this is the last peice needed to complete my 4door project(at least to run, after it runs, 4door project 2 begins=) thanks guys, now all i have to do is wait for my ebay auction to win so i can get new pump, will keep posted, fellow ccers will be the first to know i got this car running

i thought the vibration (buzzing) was a sign that it was running, if your bidding on a walbro pump on ebay then you'll also hear the same buzzing which is your vibration, only with the walbro unit it will be louder then a stock fuel pump.

na i can tell the diff, like in my crx and teg, when i turn key, i hear fuel pump, in 4door when i turnkey, no fuel pump..i'm not gettin walbro either just stock oem, but when i put power to it, it gives that shorting out no moving parts buzzing buzz, not the pressurizing buzz...

Word from the wise: Be sure to at least loosen the bolts on the opposite side of the tank if you are dropping it half-way. I did that to a buddy of mines Pontiac and bent the crap outta all the mounting brackets. Good Luck!

Dude you shouldn't have to drop the tank and the coment of taking out the back seat to get to the fuel tank is true.

the thing under the seat is for the fuel meter sending unit not the fuel pump, the tank must be dropped.

yea it had to be dropped. i saw the plate you're talking about too, and i was like wtf did i not have to drop it? but its only the fuel sending unit, the fuel pump is like on the corner of the tank, not the middle...
