Fuel & Timing ?

Just bought a turbo kit from a friend. My boyfriend wants to get a hondata unit but can't afford it. The kit came with the Vortech 12:1, missing link and a better fuel pump. It will only be running 6psi. It will be going on a b16 sirII, in a 93 coupe. It's a t3/t4 turbo, tail wastegate, turboXs bov, manifold, downpipe, oil pan and fuel lines. Have a boost gauge and just got a pyrometer and will be ordering an oil pressure gauge. I have heard some bad things about the Vortech, missing link set up, is it okay to use until I can afford something better? Does anyone use the Apexi AVC-R, is it worth getting? Any info on fuel and timing is appreciated. The kit also came with an intercooler, I just have to get some piping.

the fmu and missing link will run fine with the stock injectors. but you will NEED an inline high PRESSURE fuel pump. not high flow. what size turbois it? what kind of manifold you got? how much psi you plan on running? i would personally use the fmu and missing link until you got your hondata. the hondata s200 w/boost (98% of hondata tuners suggest this cuz its easier to tune, itll actually make tuning costs less cause its more user freindly than the s100), p72 ecu, obd2-obd1 harness, and youll come out to about 800 bucks give or take. now that does NOT include tuning on a dyno, which will cost probably about another 200 bucks. oh and youll need larger injectors. but its so worth itin the long run. if you are gonna turbo your car, DO NOT skimp on the fuel delivery. fuel is thee most important thing.

i dont like the hack, simply because its a hack. the apexi unit is not designed to work that way, so i dont trust it 100%. i know i dont want something HACKED into my car....

verdict: run the fmu, missing link, high pressure fuel pump for now. When you get 1000 dollars, get the hondata and get it tuned.

I don't know why you suggested them to get an obd1 ecu and obd2-obd1 harness, cause the 93 and SiR 2 are obd1. If I was obd2 and gonna spend 1000 on a hondata with boost, harness, and ecu, I'd spend a little more cash and get the AEM EMS. It's much more powerful than the hondata, and you don't need to burn a new chip with every tune.

Your setup will run fine there is no need for an inline pump or anything, maybe better but either way your setup will run fine. Dont know where you have heard that FMU's are bad what do yo uthink they used before hondata?

The EMS I've seen retail for $1400, and on ebay for 900-1000 or so.

You will need an inline pump. Do you know how high your fuel pressure is going to be running an FMU and boost? Pretty high. Too high for the stock pump to handle and still flow enough volume at that pressure to prevent detonation. Inline for FMU setup, intank for AFC hack and standalone systems that run close to stock fuel pressures.

She said she has a high pressure in-tank fuel pump didnt she? If she does she doesnt NEED an inline because the in-tank will be good enough for low boost.

I just recieved an inline fuel pump. Not sure on the fmu pressure my boyfriend had said something about 12:1. When I get $150 I am buying a VAFC from a friend.

You're right, I missed that...my bad. Even the high pressure intank pump won't be as efficient as a high pressure inline pump. My roommate had a boosted LS...FMU and 255lph walbro intank...kablooey thanks to the pump..of course, he was running 15 psi...this was before the stand alone systems were out and popular.

Yea in-tank isnt really the best way but it is good for low psi.
